Are you struggling with motivation?

You start a new Health & Fitness plan with the best intentions. You tell yourself ‘I'm going to go to the gym 5 days per week, eat my fruits and vegetables, go running 3 times per week and get back to the weight I was 10 years ago!'

Two weeks later you're feeling sore, lacking enthusiasm and motivation you decide this plan is not for you and go back to your old habits. Does this sound like YOU?

What if I told you, you are using motivation the wrong way? Using external motivation can only take you so far. When you don't have a wedding, a holiday, a music festival or the summer to be motivated for, then what?

You need to look intrinsically because there are going to be some days that you just don't want to do what you need to do to get you to your goals.

When I sit down with my clients, I ask them there goals and it normally goes something like

Coach-"So what are you goals?"

Client "I want to lose weight"

Coach "Great do you have number in mind or dress size?"

Client “I want to lose 40 lbs in 9 months go from a size 24 to a size 12"

Coach "Those are great goals, you given yourself enough time to make the lifestyle changes and lose weight healthy, why do you want make this change?"

Client "I've gained so much weight that it's impacting my Health; I'm on blood pressure pills, insulin and my joints hurt"

Coach. "Ok, but why is that important to you?"

Client "What do you mean?"

Coach "Why is it important for you to improve your health markers?"

Client "well if I start to lose weight my joint pain is going to go and hopefully, I can come off the blood pressure pills and Insulin"

Coach "Those are great reasons to start making changes, any other reasons why?"

Client "Honestly? I’m afraid that if I don't make this change I won’t see another year with family"

Coach "So your reason WHY is time with your family, you want invest in your Health so you can give yourself an opportunity to have more time with your loved ones."

Client Yes!!

The above conversation is from a real consultation

The reason why it's important to find out your WHY is there are going to be days where you are simply unmotivated. Those are the days you need to use your WHY and start connecting the dots.

If you complete your habit-based goals and complete 3 workouts this week, hit 10,000 steps per day, consume protein with each meal, eat to 80% full and increase my water intake this will get one step closer to the end goal. The closer I get to my end goal the more time I’m getting back to spend time with my family.

My personal WHY have changed over the last years, the first reason I started lift weights was to get stronger so I could run faster. Five years later it changed when I decided to take rugby more seriously my WHY for training changed. I weighing 160lbs I added 15 lbs on lean muscle over 18 months so I wouldn't get thrown around like a rag doll.

What’s my WHY now? I want to be able to live and enjoy life with my daughter, partner, family & friends. I need to manage my Stress and Sleep. I need to make sure my Nutrition fuels me day to day and that I Exercise regularly to improve my longevity and quality of life.
